Norway Road // Malone Maxwell Dennehy Architects

The Hackney House is a single family residence in the legacy Dallas suburb of Preston Hollow. The established and desirable neighborhood has seen a pattern of teardown and new builds and its character has changed from one of modest cottages to very large homes. This new house respects the composition of the other neighborhood houses but deviates from the more typical masonry and stone architecture with white stucco and an emphasis on inviting elements like porches and large windows. It is deliberately domestic and recalls familiar tropes of American houses.

While contemporary in design, the highly detailed spaces allow the owners’ traditional art and furniture to be used in a complementary way. Additional furniture pieces were designed or specified to suit each space, including a full bedroom set for the primary suite. Custom rugs were also designed for most of the major spaces, inspired by the unique paneling system that unifies the millwork and fenestration elements throughout the house.

This well-designed home showcases the collaboration between architect and client to realize a common vision and makes this set of spaces very special.
